As a Christian, I was raised to believe a rainbow symbolized a promise from God. While I still believe this, I have come to also believe the rainbow & its connection to God is more than a simple promise to never flood the Earth again. It seems I always see a rainbow on my worst days. I always see the rainbow right at the moment after I’ve cried out to God, because of the pain, stress, fear, or some other overwhelming negative emotion that has taken over my body. Even the rainbow in this picture was seen, captured, & sent to me by one of best friends on the day I buried my grandmother. Rainbows to me now serve as God’s reminder that He’s still with me & has things strategically planned. The rainbow reminds me that in all the ugly there is some beauty, and I just have to look around to see it. The rainbow is God’s wink letting me know I’m still alive, and that the hurt hasn’t won. Most of all, rainbows remind me to stop & take a deep breath and pause for a moment. It’s the pause that allows me to feel God’s presence and find the strength to keep pushing forward. Next time you’re in a storm, search for a rainbow & know that God is near.
